SAF CHOD VISITS HUNGARY

Serbian Army delegation, led by Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic is paying a visit to Hungary since yesterday.

Assistant for Operations of the Joint Operations Command, Lieutenant General Zeljko Petrovic, commanders of the 98th and the River Flotilla Colonel Alexander Bjelic and Colonel Andija Andric respectively, deputy commander of the 1st Army Brigade Colonel Zeljko Tramosljika.

With the highest military honors, General Dikovic was welcomed by the Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of Hungary General Tibor Benko at Heroes Square in Budapest welcomed. After the welcome, General Dikovic laid a wreath at the monument at the Millennium Square.

During the official talks between the two delegations the main topics of discussion were promotion of bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of training and military exercises. Both sides confirmed continuity of joint involvement in multinational operations for the next year's implementation of agreed trilateral exercise of the Serbian Armed Forces, the Ohio National Guard and the Armed Forces of Hungary.

General Benke acquainted the delegation of the Serbian Army with the reforms of the Hungarian armed forces and their participation in operations.

General Dikovic thanked his counterpart for the professional approach and assistance to our soldiers engaged in the Hungarian-Slovak contingent in the multinational operation in Cyprus.

Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army will today be received by the Hungarian defence minister Csaba Hende.

Serbian Army delegation visited the 59th air base "Sentgiorgio Deso" in Kecskemét, while during their visit they will visit the 5th Infantry Brigade "Istvan Boscaj" in Debrecin.

DAY OF THE ARMY CELEBRATED IN NIS

The central ceremony of the Army Day was held today in the "Mija Stanimirovic" barracks in Nis.

The ceremony was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic and his associates, State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Zoran Djordjevic, commanders of commands at operational level and of the Guard, including commanders of brigades and battalions of the Army, the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Local Government, the Serbian Orthodox Church , reserve military officers and veterans' associations.

In his speech General Dikovic said that the tradition was one of the key pillars of the Republic of Serbia in realizing its goals.

- Today we remember the brilliant success of the Serbian army in World War I, and this could be not have been possible without solid unity of the army and people, high motivation, clearly defined objectives and traditional freedom loving spirit of our people, said General Dikovic.

CHOD commended the members of the Army for all tasks carried out between the two holidays, especially for completing their assigned tasks in the GSZ successfully where the Serbian Army is now a key factor of stability. He congratulated the members of the army on accomplishments in of strengthening operational capabilities and participation in multinational operations, "where members of other armies admired our soldiers and officers because of their training, determination and discipline."

Speaking about the future of the Army and the Serbian Army, General Dikovic remarked that the Ministry of Defence fully understands the issues and efforts of the military regarding training of the members of SAF, equipping with our military with modern armaments and military equipment, including making changes to organizational structure.

WE want to have a brilliant army which will be fixed to guarantee peace and pride of the citizens of Serbia, ended his remarks by General Dikovic.

Commander of the Army Major General Mojsilovic said that he was proud to be a member the Army, the largest branch with the highest number of soldiers of the Serbian Army, which marks the start of the Battle of Kolubara as their holiday.

General Mojsilovic pointed out that the Army performed tasks pertaining to constant securing administrative line with Kosovo and control over the security zone, which provides and maintains the peace, so that all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religious affiliation, they normally live and work.

- Members of the Army shall, based on patriotism, courage, determination and knowledge, strive to be worthy of the glorious tradition of the Serbian army, written in the brightest pages of Serbian history, said the general Mojsilovic.

At today's ceremony a parade of motorized under-echelons and army units was shown.

On the occasion of Army Day, on previous day a rich program was organized: a film screening, photo exhibition, a football game and team veteran Serbian Army, folklore evening, theater and the main ceremony.

This morning the delegation of the Army Third Brigade and Mixed Artillery Brigade laid wreaths at the Monument to King Aleksandar Ujedinitelj in Nis.

POLISH DELEGATION VISITS GS

Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army Major General Milan Bjelica met today in Belgrade with the Commander of the Operational Command of the Polish armed Forces Lieutenant-General Edward Gruszka.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Poland and the defense attaché in Belgrade Andrey Jasionovski and Colonel Jerzy Scepancik respectively and SAF Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Command, Major General Goran Radovanovic.

During the meeting they discussed the implementation of religious services, cooperation in training and participation in multinational operations, as well as the improvement of military medical and military economic cooperation.

CHOD OF SPAIN VISITS SERBIA

The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Spain, Admiral Fernando Garcia Sanchez talked with his host Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army - Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, thus starting his three-day official visit to Serbia.

Upon completion of the formal welcoming ceremony, announcing the talks, General Dikovic stressed that the bilateral military cooperation between the armed forces of Spain and the Army of Serbia had since 2009 when the idea of cooperation first emerged had been put into practice.

- I am happy to say that our cooperation is excellent, as two armies are able to perform common tasks in peacekeeping operations, which is risky in all aspects and it is happening in our joint mission in Lebanon, which speaks volumes about the level of trust and understanding between two armies - said General Dikovic announcing talks on bilateral military cooperation at the highest military level, which he expected to give further impetus to the development of relations.

The aim of this cooperation is to strengthen the operational capability of the Army of Serbia and the exercise of common military interests, some of which are well understood - said the Serbian Army Chief of Staff and thanked gen Garcia for everything Spain has done in the past for developing the operational capability of the Army of Serbia, in the realization of tasks in peacekeeping missions in the world.

Admiral Fernando Garcia Sanchez thanked General Dikovic for a warm welcome, stating that such meetings contribute to improving relations between the two armies and two countries.

- There are several areas where we can improve cooperation between the two armies. The first is the involvement of armed forces in a joint operation under the auspices of the United Nations in Lebanon, and there is cooperation in the field of training and doctrine, through sharing experiences - said the guest from Spain, emphasizing that he was satisfied that hewould be given an opportunity to learn about the ideas the Serbian Army might have, which could be useful for the development of the Armed Forces of Spain in the future.

General Garcia Sanchez confirmed the support of the Armed Forces of Spain to the SAF and the Government of the Republic of Serbia in all the common missions that will occur in the future.

After talks in the Serbian General Staff, the guest will visit a center for peacekeeping operations.

MINISTER VUCIC MEETS DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION ROGOZIN

First Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Aleksandar Vucic met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin. After the formal welcome and talks in the Palace of Serbia, Minister Vucic and the guest from Russia held a press conference at the Great Warriors’ Hall.

Speaking about the importance of today's meeting, Minister Vucic pointed out that it was one of the most important visits of the Russian Government representatives to the Republic of Serbia in the past few years, because it is a delegation of the political and economic and military type aimed at improving relations between the two countries.

- Serbia and Russia are very friendly countries and we are grateful to the Russian Federation for assisting the Republic of Serbia in protection of our territorial integrity, but at the same time we would like, and that is I'd say a mutual desire, to improve not only our political, but also economic and defence cooperation between the ministries of defence – Minister Vucic pointed out, adding that the Russian delegation consists of the most important representatives of the Russian industry, singling out representatives of the defence industry.

As announced by the Minister Vucic, during the day the discussions will be held about all the major issues, and the Russian delegation will also be shown everything what Serbia can offer and produce in terms of military and economic cooperation. He also pointed out that the teams have been formed with the participation of representatives of the entire defence industry and all those who are able to offer something more.

- We intend to exchange goods, to buy and sell, but also to jointly produce and to export to third markets together – Serbian Minister of Defence emphasized announcing that the mentioned teams will come out with a complete analysis of the improvement of military-economic cooperation on 1st February. During the talks, he added, it was agreed that improving military-education, military-economic and military-to-military cooperation.

According to Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Rogozin, today one cannot speak only about intentions, but also about important achievements, assessing that in the framework of today's talks with President Nikolic, the Speaker, and the first Deputy Prime Minister they discussed many topics as continuation of the August talks with Russian President Putin.

- I believe that by arrival of the new government at the head of the country Russia got a reliable and stable partner in all areas of cooperation, and we still need to continue to improve this cooperation – Rogozin pointed out.

ANSWERS TO JOURNALISTS’ QUESTIONS

Responding to questions from journalists, Minister Vucic announced that by the end of the year, in Velika Plana, a new factory which will produce several versions of the model of combat armoured vehicles for export to Kenya and Bangladesh, for the needs of the Serbian Armed Forces, and for finalisation of Nora missile system, will be opened.

- We expect to make a final agreement with our Russian partners that they give the chassis and body, and we to give components for various types of combat vehicles. Initially, the factory will employ about 130 people, and we expect that, according to our calculations, we will have 192 employees by June next year – Minister Vucic emphasized adding that when it comes to the possible purchase of fighter planes from Russia, the Russian delegation staying in the Serbian capital includes representatives of the United Aviation Corporation MiG-Sukhoi and that certain offers demanded by Serbia as early as in 2010 arrived now.

- They talked about ways and possibilities to improve our capabilities to improve our defence powers – Minister Vucic said, adding that the Russian side is interested in ammunition, explosives, gunpowder and the development of small arms, and joint participation in third markets was also discussed.

Rogozin told journalists that the leadership of that country considered the implementation of the mentioned projects, adding that Serbia is fully capable to manufacture military equipment, bearing in mind that the point is in the way of modernization of samples of weapons and military equipment. He added that there is a plan for joint production, both for Russian market and for the markets of the third countries, mainly ammunition.

- This will be included in the contents of the protocol on cooperation which will be signed – Rogozin said, assessing that today's negotiations meet national interests of both countries.

Commenting on today's talks, Rogozin pointed out that these were preliminary results of the contacts, and as he pointed out, it has been long time since there were any contacts between the two ministries of defence. He added that they should sign an agreement on cooperation, and in the future, also the Declaration on joint strategic cooperation between Russia and Serbia, saying that it was crucial to establish a comprehensive cooperation.

In the follow-up of the visit, the Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Rogozin, attended presenting capacities of the defence industry of our country in the "Top?ider" barracks.

VISIT OF THE DEPUTY CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF OF THE SLOVENIAN ARMED FORCES

The two-day visit of the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Andrej Osterman to Serbia, started today by reception at the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces.

After short formal talks on bilateral military cooperation, extending words of welcome to the high guest and members of the Slovenian delegation, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces Major General Milan Bjelica pointed out that it had been stated that the relations between the two armies were at a high level and that cooperation has been intensified lately.

- We discussed the modalities for the expansion of cooperation based on training, education of personnel, support and exchange of experiences, as well as on the implementation of NCO corps and participation in multinational operations and military medical and other cooperation, General Bjelica said pointing out that the focus of cooperation is in the field of training and exercises, including hands-on exercises, for training through simulation.

Expressing satisfaction over his visit to Serbia, General Andrej Osterman highly estimated the relationship between the two armies and pointed out that all the planned details for cooperation during this year have been successfully executed.

- In further discussions we will coordinate activities that are ahead of us, which will be based on the exchange of experiences between the two armies, because every armed force needs to adopt others' solutions that contribute to the advancement of all segments of the system, said Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces.

General Osterman was also greeted by the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic. After that General Osterman visited the Joint Operations Command, and the Military Museum in Kelemegdan, while schedule for tomorrow includes reception at the Deputy Minister’s for Defence Policy Miroslav Jovanovic and tour of the Military Academy.

In April 2009, the representatives of the governments of Serbia and Slovenia signed an Agreement on Defence Cooperation, which made cooperation between the two armies significantly improved, which resulted in the participation of the armed forces of Slovenia (with two PC 8 Pilatus aircraft) at the air show on the occasion of the centenary of the Serbian military aviation.

CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF VISITS GREECE

Delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces led by Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, has been in a visit to the Hellenic Republic since yesterday.

With the highest military honours, General Dikovic laid a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in the central Athens' Syntagma Square. After laying the wreath, a welcoming ceremony for General Dikovic was organised in front of the Ministry of National Defence, where he met with the Chief of General Staff of the National Defence of Hellenic Armed Forces General Mikhail Kostarakos.

General Kostarakos, with his closest associates, briefed the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces about the basic characteristics of the defence policy of Greece and the current engagement of the Hellenic Armed Forces.

During the official talks, the two delegations discussed the promotion of bilateral military cooperation, especially in the field of education, training and exchange of officers in the military education institutions and training centers of the two countries.

General Dikovic thanked his colleagues for the support provided by the Hellenic Armed Forces in maintaining commemorative ceremonies at the Serbian military memorials at Zeytinlik and on the island of Corfu, as well as for the willingness to accept our representatives as observers in SEEBRIG and NDC-GR Headquarters.

Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces was received today by the Greek Minister of Defence Panos Panayiotopoulos, and after the official talks, the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces visited the Special Forces Training Center in Greece, where he attended demonstrtion of a part of their operational capabilities.

The delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces was received by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Greece, Dragan Zupanjevac, and the reception at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia was attended also by three of our cadets at training at Greek military academies.

HANDOVER OF DUTY OF CHIEF OF PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS CENTRE

At the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations, the handover of the duty of Chief of this unit directly subordinate to the Joint Operations Command (JOC) has been conducted.

Colonel Milivoje Pajovic, the former Head of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defence, was handed over the duty by Colonel Nikola Dejanovic, Deputy Head of the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations. The handover ceremony was attended by the JOC Deputy Commander Major General Goran Radovanovic.

General Radovanovic, mentioning the parts of the rich military biography of Colonel Pajovic, pointed out that he is a man who knows the military very well.

- I believe that the tandem of Colonel Pajovic and Colonel Dejanovic will work well, and I do not worry that the Centre for Peacekeeping Operations will achieve excellent results and will seriously continue with the implementation of the set tasks. I wish them both every success in their future work and contribution to the reputation of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Radovanovic said.

Colonel Pajovic emphasized that he will apply all his experience and knowledge to the new job, because he will find there good collaborators and connoisseurs of their work. Colonel Dejanovic expressed his expectations that the Centre will continue to perform their tasks at a high level.

THE DAY OF THE 4TH BRIGADE MARKED

In the barracks, "Prvi pesadijski puk Kneza Milosa Velikog " in Vranje, today the 31st January - Day of the Fourth Brigade of the Army of Serbia was marked. The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Aleksandar Zivkovic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Negovan Stankovic, MPs Miroljub Stojcic and Dragan Nikolic, Administrative Chief of the Pcinja Region Budimir Mihajlovic, Vranje Mayor Zoran Antic, as well as representatives of local self government from Bujanovac, Surdulica, Targovishte, Presevo, Vladicin Han, Crna Trava, Bosilegrad and Vlasotinac, then bishop of Vranje Pahomije, representatives of educational and public institutions, enterprises and institutions, veterans' associations, Organization of war veterans, and citizens of Vranje.

General Zivkovic congratulated the members of the Fourth Brigade the day of the Unit, and the Mayor of Vranje and the residents of the city the day of liberation.

Welcoming the guests, the commander of the Fourth Army Brigade Colonel Zoran Lubura pointed out that the glorious tradition of the First Infantry Regiment, "the people of Vranje," was continued by the former 78th Motorized Brigade, with the Fourth Brigade taking on itself to continue this tradition.

"Members of the brigade, led by traditional values, perform responsible tasks, the most important - providing stability and peace to all citizens in the south of Serbia, regardless of their nationality, religion or political affiliation. Officers, civilians and soldiers in the Brigade continue to preserve the core values of loyalty to the homeland, and the officer's military honor, professionalism, discipline, humanity and nurturing traditions of the Serbian army. Proud and dignified, professional and brave, we will carry the flag of our brigade - Colonel Lubura said.

Vranje Mayor Zoran Antic said the officers and soldiers of the Fourth Brigade to confirm that we have an Army that is a factor of peace and worthy of respect and admiration.

At the end of the ceremony the brigade members marched in a procession, the best teams and individuals were rewarded for outstanding results in the command and training in 2012 Badge "exemplary officer" was resented to captain Milos Todorovic. NCO Stojan Simonovic was awarded the badge "exemplary noncommissioned officer," and recognition for being an "exemplary soldier" was awarded to professional soldiers corporals Zoran Jovanovic and Sinisa Cvetanov. Badge "Best crew-room-team" assigned to the 46th crew tank battalion, commanded by Sergeant Mirko Pavlovic.

Commander of the Army awarded the most prominent officers and civilian personnel including Major Zoran Stoickov, Aleksandar Grujic and Goran Dejanovic, Sergeant Sasha Milenkovic, senior sergeants first class and Milan Jovanovic Vladan Krstic, as well as professional soldiers and Marjan Toni Vladimir Mitic and civilians Dalibor Stojanovic and Dalibor Tomic.
