3RD CISM AND 1ST SERBIAN ARMED FORCES CHAMPIONSHIP IN HALF MARATHON OPENS

Parade of athletes and appropriate artistic programme at the central square in Apatin marked today the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) Regional Military Championship and 1st Serbian Armed Forces Championship in Half Marathon.

This year, the CISM championship gathered twenty-one men and eleven women athletes who are members of the armed forces of the Netherlands, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. In addition to the twelve men and six women contestants of the Serbian Armed Forces, thirteen contestants from the Military Grammar School will also take part in the First Serbian Armed Forces Championship in the half marathon.

The competition was opened by the Head of the Department of Military Sports in the Military Academy, Colonel Dragan Djini, stressing on that occasion that the sport is also an important link of friendship between people from different nations and armies.

The Serbian flag on the mast was erected by captain Dejan Popovic and professional soldier Marijana Cegar Lukic, and the CISM flag was raised by Lieutenant Colonel Jardi Klein from the Netherlands and Sergeant Nicole Zlateva from Bulgaria.

The opening ceremony of the international military competition, in addition to numerous guests, was attended by many citizens Apatina.

Mayor of Apatin, Zivorad Smiljanic, prepared the reception for participants in the half marathon in the town house, after which a press conference was held.

Start of the half marathon race at the track 21,097 meters long is scheduled for tomorrow, 20 October at 11 am, with start and finish in Junakovic Spa.

SERBIAN ARMED FORCES MEDICAL TEAM TRAVELS TO DR CONGO

Air medical team, which is composed of two doctors and four medical technicians is travelling tomorrow to the Democratic Republic of Congo where they are to replace our team that has been there in the UN mission MONUSCO since April this year.

Our peacekeepers were received in the General Staff by Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Milan Bjelica. The reception was attended by the Head of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, Colonel Jelesije Radivojevic.

Major Vasilije Bosnjak, Major Dusan Sofranac, Staff Sergeant Ivan Zivkovic, Staff Sergeant Ivan Jovanovic, civilians Hana Romanov and Jelena Ruskaji, who are travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo tomorrow, constitute the Serbian medical team with the primary task of medical evacuation of injured and sick by air to the neighbouring countries according to the UN decision.

UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo – MONUSCO was established in November 1999 by the Security Council Resolution. This is the nineteenth rotation of the air medical team (AMET) of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces that has been engaged in this peacekeeping mission since 7th March 2003.

DELEGATION OF THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE AND THE SERBIAN ARMED FORCES AT THE BOOK FAIR

The State Secretary Alexander Nikolic and the Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovi? with his associates visited the 57th International Belgrade Book Fair.

The Delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces visited booths of the Odbrana Media Centre, Institute for Textbooks, Official Gazette and The Orthodox word.

"The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have something to show at the Fair, and the evidence in favour of it is what can be seen at the booth of Odbrana Media Centre. It is the encouraging fact that we have such an organizational unit in the defence system, taking into account with its rich and varied range the development of military thought, theory and practice, and translates them into words", General Dikovic said, praising all those who contributed to the proper representation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in the booth of Odbrana Media Centre.

Director of Odbrana MC, Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub Markovic presented to the MoD and SAF delegation the publishing activities of Odbrana Media Centre as well as new publications, which will be promoted at this year's Book Fair.

CEREMONY MARKING THE BATTLE OF KUMANOVO

The central ceremony of the centenary of the outbreak of the First Balkan War and the liberation from the Ottoman Empire was held yesterday on the Zebrnjak hill in Macedonia.

The ceremony was attended by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, who led the state delegation that included Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, Minister of Justice Nikola Selakovic, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, Advisor to the Serbian President Marko Djuric, as well as representatives of the National Assembly of Serbia Aleksandar Cotric and Milorad Stosic.

The celebration was attended by the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, President of the New Serbian Democracy from Montenegro Andrija Mandic.

At the monument of the victory of the Serbian Army, wreaths were laid by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Chief of SAF GS Lieutenant General Ljubisa Dikovic, President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, and a representative of the Government of Macedonia.

Bishop Atanasije of Hvostan served the mass for the fallen soldiers.
President Tomislav Nikolic said, addressing the gathered people, that the celebration of the Battle of Kumanovo was a message of peace and remembrance of a civilization turning point in the Balkans, Europe and the world.

- Marking the centenary of the Battle of Kumanovo is a message of peace, cooperation and understanding which is sent by Serbia and Macedonia to the region and the entire world. Zebrnjak is the place that connects us, Nikolic said at the central ceremony marking the centenary of the Battle of Kumanovo on the Zebrnjak hill.

The Serbian President said that the victory after more than five centuries enabled the Serbian Army to take control over Kosovo and enter Skopje, the royal capital of Serbia in the 14th century.

-At this point, a century ago, on 23rd and 24th October, the youth, strength and love flew out and we are standing here today at the site of the theatre of famous historical battle 'filled with pride as descendants of a harbinger of freedom’, Nikolic said, adding that in the place of Zebrnjak, 100 years ago, the fate of the Ottoman Empire was decided.

- Filled with pride as descendants of a harbinger of freedom, we are stand on Zebrnjak, the place where the fate of the Ottoman Empire was decided, President Nikolic said.

Nikolic recalled that on the Zebrnjak hill a monument was erected in honor of the Serbian heroes according to the design of architect Momir Korunovic in 1937, in which crypt the remains of 723 killed soldiers were deposited.

The most important battle of the First Balkan War took place in Kumanovo valley on 23rd and 24th October 1912, and the Serbian army defeated the then superior forces of the Ottoman Empire, and after more than five centuries brought freedom to the old medieval Serbian areas.

SAF CHOD VISITS GSZ

The SAF CHOD LTG Ljubisa Dikovic visited the Ground Safety Zone with his associates some of the units stationed there yesterday.
He was accompanied by the commander of the army Major General Milan Mojsilovic.

The tour started at Peceno brdo near Presevo military base where General Dikovic could see for himself the level of preparedness of our troops and the soldiers of the 4th Brigade readiness to perform their respective tasks.

In the continuation of the tour the Chief of General Staff visited the members of the Third Brigade deployed in Medevce base at Medvedja.

The soldiers in the base under the commander of the base captain Boris Buckovic who performed a practical demonstration of preparation and sending troops tasked with the securing of administrative line, as well as procedures upon controlling a person who crossed the administrative line at the place where crossing is not permitted.

After the demonstration, General Dikovic talked with commanders and could see for himself the preparedness of the military bases for the upcoming period.

DONATION TO ENGLISH LEARNING CENTRE IN ZAJECAR GARRISON

Continuing the activities planned within the framework of the partnership and for the purpose of training and testing of MoD and SAF members in the field of English Language Teaching (PELT), the Center for learning English (SAC-self access centre) in the Command of the 31st infantry battalion, 3.brigade in the Zajecar garrison was visited by the DAs of PELT donor countries: the USA, Norway, the UK and Sweden.

During the visit, the center received the third donation of books, journals, magazines and newspapers in English. These materials will help the teachers of English in the adoption of new methods of learning (task-based learning)in order to make a more efficient use of SAC in developing operational capabilities by organizing semi-intensive English courses as part of SAF training cycle for testing according to STANAG 6001 standards.

SAC is equipped with a multimedia cabinet with computer, digital video and audio equipment, the most advanced software for learning English, library books, and permanent Internet connection to visit the sites specifically designed for military and general learning English.

EXPERT DISCUSSION "CARING AND WORKING WITH PEOPLE"

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic opened today in the House of Guards in Topcider, an expert discussion on "Caring and working with people - a prerequisite for effective military collectives."

Expert discussion was attended by Assistant Minister for Human Resources Jovan Mijakovic, Director of the Defence Inspectorate Lt. Gen. Aleksandar Zivkovic, CHOD’s main staff, Commander of the operational level, commanders of units of the brigade and battalion, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.

General Dikovic said that it was an important issue, because the structure of people who attend the hearing just talking about it.

 Today there are commanders, psychologists, teachers, doctors, heads of departments-people whose day starts and ends by meeting a person, this person being an officer, non-commissioned officer, a civilian, a member of the Serbian Army with their strengths and weaknesses, desires, plans, dedicated system. These are people with honor and dignity, different perceptions of basic social and human values. Our strength is in this man, and our power is collective. Caring and working with people is the key sentence of success and failure, anywhere, anytime. The first thing is to show concern, then to work, because without each other, working with people is doomed to failure as the Chief of General Staff said.

Head of the GS Human Resources Department, Colonel Petar Boskovic presented to the participants of today's activity a plan for professional discussion and work, and that the aim of the discussion thoroughly analyzes the situation and the importance of caring and working with people in the Serbian army, and the place and role of leaders and professional bodies in the process.

Expert discussion covers four areas - the experience of control, psychosocial status, physical and psychological burden of professional members of the Serbian Armed Forces, health of professional members of the Serbian Army, then the mental hygiene of working with people as well as care and working with people in training, motivating staff and building good interpersonal relations.

HONORARY SALVO ON OCCASION OF THE ARMISTICE DAY

The members of SAF Guard marked today the Armistice Day in World War I with 10 salvo volleies from six artillery arms at Kalemegdan terrace.

In commemoration of Armistice Day, SAF CHOD Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic, as the Representative of the President of the Republic of Serbia, will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Hero on Avala, on Sunday 11 November.

Members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will participate in marking of Armistice Day by laying wreaths at the French military cemetery at 10.15 am, at the Memorial Vault to Belgrade defenders in First World War at 11 am at the Memorial Vault of the Russian soldiers who perished in World War I at 11:45 and at the Commonwealth Cemetery at 12.30.

MARKING THE DAY OF THE 1ST ARMY BRIGADE

With a Parade and alignment of units unit, today at barracks in Novi Sad "Jugovicevo," The Day of the First Brigade of the Army, the 10th November, was marked thus remembering the day when first unit of the Seventh Infantry Regiment of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, led by Major Vojislav Bulgarski, marched in Novi Sad.

Congratulating the members of the First Brigade of the holiday, the army commander Major General Mojsilovic said that the unit has managed with top quality organization of work and professional attitude to achieve significant results.

ou have demonstrated all this in the successful execution of combat and non-combat tasks, participation in multinational operations, active participation in military exercises in the country and abroad, in particular in assisting civilian authorities in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters - said General Mojsilovic noting that all of this makes the brigade widely appreciated as the Army of Serbia and among citizens.

The commander of the First Brigade of the Army, Brigadier General Djokica Petrovic reminded the present of the importance of today's date, and successfully completed the task of the First Brigade.

- Achieving maximum is still ahead of us and that is our goal - said Petrovic general to all the present. The SAF CHOD Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic also congratulated the day to the brigade members.

Today's ceremony was attended by the mayor of Novi Sad Milos Vucevic, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, of Backa diocese, local governments, and elementary school students from Novi Sad.

The first infantry brigade comprises armored and mechanized, artillery and missile air defense units as well as engineering, logistics, and signaling units. The command of the First Army Brigade is located in Novi Sad, and the units are stationed in Backa Topola, Sremska Mitrovica, Pancevo and Novi Sad. The Army Brigade was formed on 31 July 2006 of the Novi Sad Corps units and other parts of the Serbian Army.

ARMISTICE DAY

Armistice Day in World War I was marked today in Serbia and tribute was paid by laying of wreaths at the memorial to commemorate the innocent victims of the WWI from 1914 to 1918. year.

The wreaths near the crypt to the defenders of Belgrade in World War I was laid at the New Cemetery in Belgrade, on behalf of the Government by Prime Minister Ivica Dacic.

On behalf of the Ministry of Defence, an MoD and SAF delegation, led by Brigadier General Dusan Stojanovic, commander of the Army Training Command Serbia laid the wreath.

Wreaths were also laid by representatives of the City of Belgrade, the ambassadors of France, Russia, Australia, the UK, Canada, Greece, Italy, USA, Romania, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Bulgaria, as well as representatives of NGOs.

With full state and military honors, Army Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Ljubisa Dikovic, as the Representative of the President of the Republic of Serbia, laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Hero on Avala.

"Proud and freedom-loving citizens of Serbia remember with pride their brave ancestors who with their blood and lives together with the allied forces liberated Serbia in World War I and made a decisive contribution to the liberation of enslaved peoples of Europe. Eternal Glory and praise to you, wrote in a memorial book General Dikovic.

Furthermore, wreaths were also laid by representatives of veterans associations which foster the tradition of liberation wars.

Wreath laying ceremony was held at the French military cemetery, then at the memorial vault to Russian warriors and at the Commonwealth Cemetery. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia wreaths were laid by the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy Dragi Vidojevic.

Other delegations that laid wreaths were representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces led by General Stojanovic, representatives of the City of Belgrade, the French Embassy, the Russian Federation, Australia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Greece, Italy, the U.S., and representatives of the Embassy of Romania, the Netherlands , Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany and Bulgaria, as well as a representative of the Commonwealth - Ambassador of India, including representatives of the Embassy of Cyprus, Nigeria, Poland, Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka Association of descendants of warriors Serbia from 1912 to 1920 , and NGOs.
Armistice Day commemorates the memory of the innocent victims who perished from 1914 to 1918 in WWI, and this is the first time the day has marked in our country as a national holiday.

Today, in accordance with the proposal of the President of Serbia, which was accepted by the Government, this day is to be marked nationwide and with obvious ceremonies. It was suggested that the emblem - a badge and a poster to mark Armistice Day is a combination of Natalia’s ramonda, or Serbian phoenix flower and the Albanian memorials, but the poster is to bear an explanation of both symbols.
