COURSE GENDER IN MULTINATIONAL OPERATIONS CONCLUDED

5 – day Course ‘Gender in Multinational Operations’ was concluded in the Peacekeeping Operations Center on 5 April, 2013.

Course goal was to qualify participants to work on duties in MnOp, in accordance with the UN, EU and NATO standards regarding gender perspective, in order to provide gender mainstreaming in performing tasks and activities in MnOp and increase operational efficiency and better understanding of gender requirements and problems of the local population in the area of multinational operations.

The Course was conducted by an instructor team and lecturers from the Peacekeeping Operations Center, Serbian Ministry of Interior, UN Agency for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN), UN Development Program (UNDP), Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and civil society organizations.

This was the second Course from the field of gender in MnOp, which was organized in the Peacekeeping Operations Center together with the UN WOMEN Agency.

This year’s Course had 28 participants – five from the MoD, 13 from the SAF, five from the Ministry of Interior, two from the Criminal Police Academy, two from the Security Faculty and one from the Faculty of Political Sciences.

According to the words of those most responsible for the realization of the Course, all Course goals were completely fulfilled, and after five working days, participants presented great improvement in understanding and practical application of the acquired knowledge from the field of gender questions in MnOp.

During the Course closing ceremony, participants were given certificates for successful completion of this program. 

Course director is Major Damir Jeina.

Course ‘Gender in Multinational Operations’ was officially closed by the Chief of the Peacekeeping Operations Center, Colonel MSc Milivoje Pajovic, with presence of MG Goran Radovanovic, Zorica Skakun from UN WOMEN and chief inspector Zeljko Milenic, from the Bureau for International Cooperation and European Integrations.

MEMORIAL PLAQUE IN HONOR TO SAF PYROTECHNICIANS UNVEILED

Near Pancic Summit today a memorial in honor of plaque sergeants Nebojsa Milic and Slavisa Markovic, Serbian Army deminers who tragically died on this day a year ago during the demining of cluster bombs dropped by NATO bombing. The ceremony of unveiling the plaque, with the words "Taken from oblivion ...", was attended by SAF Chief of the General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic, Air and Air Defense Commander Major General Ranko Zivak, relatives and friends of deminers, members of the Serbian Army.

- Sergeants Markovic and Milic, experienced professionals gave what is most valuable to every man - his life, performing a task which aimed to protect the life and safety of citizens living on or come to visit Kopaonik said Major General Ranko Zivak.

He added that this was a sad occasion  to remind us that the Army is an institution where people are engaged in high-risk tasks.
- Every day various tasks in which there is a risk to the health and lives of its members, officers and soldiers are performed. Accidents do not only affect individuals. They are a devastating blow to the family, relatives and friends. Therefore, the Serbian Army is doing everything it can in these difficult times to help and protect the family members of the casualties. Dear families of victims, be certain that you are not alone in this. SAF members will not allow their dead comrades and colleagues to be forgotten them or their trace to be obliterated so they raised a memorial plaque in honor of sergeants first class Nebojsa Milic and Slavisa Markovic said General Zivak.

In addition to the delegation of the Serbian Army, wreaths at the memorial were laid by the families of the victims and a delegation of 98 and 204 Aviation Brigade, to which sergeants Markovic and Milic were assigned.
