Indian Navy commissions 'INS Tarkash'

NEW DELHI: Enhancing its firepower, the Indian Navy today commissioned 'INS Tarkash', the second of its three stealth frigates being built in Russia, at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad there.

The warship, which is expected to sail into Indian waters in December, was commissioned by Western Naval Commander Vice- Admiral Shekhar Sinha, the Navy said in a release.

The first warship of the series, INS Teg, had joined the naval fleet earlier this year.

Armed with the 290-km range supersonic BrahMos cruise missile, the warship is part of the follow-on Talwar class project.

It is also equipped with upgraded 100 mm medium range gun, optically controlled 30 mm close-in weapon system, torpedoes, rocket launchers and advanced electronic warfare suite.

"The induction of stealth frigate with an advanced combat suite and blend of Russian and Indian cutting edge technologies, will bolster our role as a key facilitator in promoting peace and stability in Indian Ocean region," the Navy said.

"The warship is commanded by Captain Antony George -- an anti-submarine warfare specialist, and will join the Western Fleet by December end," it said.

Ambassador of India to Russia, Ajai Malhotra attended the induction ceremony along with senior officials of the Russian government and the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

The Russian Navy has also placed orders for three warships with a similar configuration for its own requirements with the Yantar shipyard.

India, Maldives holding joint military training exercises

The fourth joint military training exercises between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) - EKUVERIN 2012 - is being held in Belgaum from November 12 to 25.

A total of 45 personnel from the MNDF are taking part in the exercises along with the personnel from the Indian Army. The bilateral annual exercises, which commenced in 2009 in Belgaum, are alternately held in India and Maldives. The aim of the exercises is to enhance the close military cooperation between the two countries. Brigadier General Ahmed Nilam, Commandant – Marine Corps, MNDF would be reaching Belgaum later to observe EKUVERIN 2012, along with senior officers from the Indian side, according to a release by the External Affairs Ministry here.

Defence ties between India and Maldives have continued to expand and strengthen over the years. In April this year, both the countries, along with Sri Lanka, held joint Coast Guard/Naval exercises – DOSTI XI - off the coast of Male (Maldives) to strengthen the bonds of friendship and enhance mutual operational capability and cooperation in the region. Defence Minister A.K. Antony had also visited Maldives in September.

INS Viraat, Indian navy's lone aircraft carrier suffers collision off Kerala coast, reveal sources

Kochi: A Kerala state owned boat ferrying about 100 passengers rammed into aircraft carrier INS Viraat here, naval sources said today.
However, no one was injured and there was no damage to Viraat, which is here as part of its periodic and scheduled maintenance, the sources said.

The incident occurred yesterday as German cruise liner 'Celebrity Solistice', which had arrived here on Saturday with about 2800 tourists and 1250 crew, was about to embark on its journey for Port Klang, Malaysia.

The boat driver said he was unaware of the presence of the cruise liner, which also allegedly failed to sound a siren before starting its journey, Kerala State Water Transport Department sources said.

It is suspected the boat got caught in waves generated by propellers of the liner and rammed into the naval vessel.

The boat was on its way to Ernakulam jetty from Fort Kochi.

The KSWTD has ordered an enquiry.

INS Viraat will be in Kochi for a few months.

La Armada India pretende financiar los trabajos para finalizar uno de los submarinos Proyecto 971 Rusos para, después, alquilárselo a la Armada Rusa como está haciendo con el Submarino Nerpa.

Es un contrato de gran interés porque significa que alguien te page por construirte un submarino, luego te lo alquila a una pila de millones al año y, al final, vuelve a tu servicio. Un negocio redondo.

El negocio redondo ha sido el cierre de unas 43 academias y centros de enseñanza militar, para privatizarlos y quedarse con la pasta, igual que otros numerosos objetos en cuyo balance habia terrenos. Un ministerio de defensa es la organizacion que mas terrenos posee en su balance y dejar a ese ladron ser ministro de defensa es como dejar entrar a una cabra en un huerto.

Para ver si hay negocio en este caso, hemos de ver el valor actual del submarino, considerar los flujos actualizados que se van a cobrar y considerar el valor residual al fializarse el contrato (a ver si se lo devuelven hecho una mierda, los gastos de reparacion actualizados los hemos de restar).

De todas maneras la funcion del ministerio de defensa no consiste en hacer negocios de ningun tipo. Para ellos todo es un buen negocio porque el submarino les sale totalmente gratis, incluso si lo alquilan por 1 euro al dia ya les sale rentable.

Mira esto, el submarino que India va a pagar para que se concluya sino paga India no se concluye.

Ese Submarino que pagará o pagaría India será alquilado por 10 años y, después, regresará a la Armada Rusa para estar otros tantos.

Mira esto, el submarino que India va a pagar para que se concluya sino paga India no se concluye.

Pero quien ha dicho que si no paga India no se construye?  Los rusos necesitan renovar su flota urgentemente y no tienen suficientes capacidades

y, después, regresará a la Armada Rusa para estar otros tantos.

Y para que los rusos van a querer un submarino diseñado el siglo pasado cuando pueden disponer de uno mas moderno?

Negocio redondo se mire por donde se mire.

Tu no tienes parametros financieros de esta transaccion y por tanto no podemos saber hasta que punto es un buen negocio. Teniendo todos los datos a mano te calculo cualquier ratio de rentabilidad en un momento, solo nos tendremos que poner de acuerdo en las tasas de descuento.

En la vista de Putin al astillero Amur no se habló del submarino de marras y esto solo puede significar que no interesa a la Armada que tiene otros programas en marcha.

Una cosa es tener que gastarte dinero en un diseño que hoy es avanzado y dentro de 10 lo será menos y otra muy distinta que otro lo pague. El caso que comentamos.

Entonces, la opción India es finalizar otro SSN y luego alquilarlo. En el extremo oriental en el astillero Amur de Komsomosl-na-amur hay, casualmente, uno sin finalizar del proyecto 971 mejorado o 971I, es el Irbis que está aprox. al 60% de construcción.

Si acaban firmando es más que probable que sea ese submarino.
