Intra-Syrian talks unlikely to be resumed until late September: Russian Foreign Ministry

One cannot expect the resumption of the intra-Syrian negotiations before the events at the UN Security Council scheduled for late September, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told reporters on Wednesday.
“A series of events on the Syrian issue is planned at the UN Security Council in September, first and foremost, a special Security Council meeting scheduled for September 21,” Gatilov said. “There will be a number of other contacts in New York. After these events it will be more realistic to talk about the dates of the intra-Syrian talks.”
The diplomat has also pointed out that the resumption of the intra-Syrian negotiations would depend on the outcome of the Russian-US contacts.
“Russian-US diplomatic contacts are currently underway. The possibility to achieve a positive outcome of these talks will largely help Mr. de Mistura to make a decision on the next round of the intra-Syrian negotiations,” Gatilov said.
Gatilov did not rule out the participation of UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura in the upcoming talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry in Geneva.
“There is no specific date yet, but it cannot be ruled out that the meeting may take place any time soon,” he said.
Gatilov noted that de Mistura’s participation in it “has not been discussed yet.” “If he is in Geneva, he will probably join (the talks) at some stage,” the diplomat said.
A source in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department earlier said that work is underway on a meeting between the Russian and US top diplomats to discuss the Syrian issue.
Lavrov and Kerry held brief talks on the sidelines of the G20 summit held in China’s Hangzhou on September 4-5. Efforts to hammer out an agreement on coordination in the fight against terrorists in Syria topped the agenda of the meeting.

Russian Air Force destroys ISIL’s HQ in northeast Homs

Homs, Syria (12:35 A.M.) – The Russian Air Force carried out several airstrikes over the northeastern countryside of the Homs Governorate on Wednesday, targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIL) headquarters near the Al-Sha’er Gas Fields.
According to the government-backed “National Defense Forces,” the Islamic State’s headquarters near the Al-Sha’er Gas Fields was destroyed on Wednesday after a violent raid was conducted over their positions.
In addition to the airstrikes over the Al-Sha’er Gas Fields, the Russian and Syrian air forces also targeted the Islamic State’s positions at the desert villages of ‘Arak and Sukhanah.
These airstrikes over Sukhanah and ‘Arak have become far more frequent after the Islamic State attempted to advance into east Palmyra (Tadmur).

Russian, Syrian jets pound ISIS in eastern Syria

Deir Ezzor, Syria (10:45 A.M.) – The Syrian and Russian air forces pounded the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) all over the eastern countryside of Syria on Thursday, targeting the vast desert area that stretches across the Homs and Deir Ezzor governorates.
According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Russian and Syrian air forces began the day by striking the Islamic State’s defenses near the Al-Sha’er Gas Fields and the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur); this resulted in the destrucion of three terrorist vehicles.
The two air forces would follow-up this attack with a relentless barrage of airstrikes above the gas rich villages of Al-Sukhanah and ‘Arak in the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.
Following the bombardment of eastern Homs, the Syrian and Russian jets turned their attention to the Deir Ezzor Governorate, where they would carry out several airstrikes over the provincial capital.
Local sources told Al-Masdar on Thursday morning that the Russian and Syrian air forces struck the Islamic State’s defenses at the Mudhafeen, Al-Rashideen, and Al-Hawiqa districts of Deir Ezzor, resulting in the destruction of several terrorist mechanisms.

Russian, Syrian jets pulverize northern Hama

Hama, Syria (10:00 A.M.) – The Syrian and Russian air forces continued their aerial campaign over northern Hama on Friday, targeting several sites that belonged to the jihadist rebels of Jund Al-Aqsa (Al-Qaeda franchise) and Faylaq Al-Sham.
According to a military source at the Hama Airport, the Russian and Syrian air forces took turns hammering the jihadist-controlled villages of Souran, Taybat Al-Imam, and Helfaya on Friday morning.
The Syrian and Russian air forces were also providing air cover to the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers near the villages of Ma’ardes and Al-Iskenderiyah, as they attempt to advance westward against the jihadist rebels.
Over the last 72 hours, the Syrian Armed Forces have managed to recapture 3 small villages from the jihadist rebels; however, they still have a long way to go before recovering all points lost in northern Hama.

Putin and Erdogan discuss Aleppo situation

The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Erdogan had a phone conversation about Aleppo whilst    state-run Turkish Anadolu said Erdogan wanted Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Aleppo “as soon as possible.”
This comes as the Syrian Army have began reversing jihadist progress in the city and have them on be backfoot.
Anadolu Agency claims however that the reason for wanting a ceasefire is for Eid Celebrations on September 12.

Russians to use Iranian airbase again to bomb east Syria

One month after using the Hamedan Airbase to bomb the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in eastern Syria, the Russian Air Force has once again decided to move its aerial assets to this military installation in Iran’s western countryside.
According to the Sputnik News Agency, Moscow and Tehran are currently negotiating the use of this airbase, so that the Russian Air Force can resume their military operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham in eastern Syria.
“It will take a week and Antonov An-124 Ruslan and Ilushin Il-76 strategic airlifters will to make dozens of flights to prepare Hamedan to host Russian bombers, Sukhoi Su-34s, and Tupolev Tu-22M3s,” a source told Sputnik News.
The Russian Air Force used the Hamedan Airbase in early August; however, they abruptly removed their aerial assets after a week-long deployment.

Russian jets pound the jihadist rebels in southern Aleppo

Aleppo, Syria (1:00 P.M.) – The Russian Air Force carried out 20+ airstrikes this morning over the southern Aleppo countryside, targeting the jihadist rebels of Jaysh Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) near the Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway).
According to a military source at the Hama Airport, the Russian Air Force struck Jaysh Al-Fateh’s positions at the villages of Khan Touman, Khalsah, and Tal Al-‘Eis; these airstrikes resulted in the death of numerous jihadists and the destruction of several armored vehicles.
Despite brokering the Syrian ceasefire deal on Friday, the Russians did not agree to stop targeting jihadist groups like Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham and Jund Al-Aqsa.
These aforementioned jihadist groups continue to maintain a large presence inside rebel camps, which is one of the reasons why the Russians demanded the US-backed “moderate” groups disassociate themselves as soon as possible.
If the moderate groups refuse to leave the jihadist camps, then they will be deemed a legitimate target by the Russian Air Force.

Russian jets hit ISIS in Deir Ezzor with full force

Deir Ezzor, Syria (1:51 P.M.) – The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a large-scale offensive inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Friday that targeted the strategic Brigade 137th Brigade base in the southwestern countryside of the provincial capital.
In a matter of 48 hours, the Islamic State militants were able to capture a number of checkpoints along the main road to the 137th Brigade base; this required reinforcements from the Deir Ezzor Military Airport to pour into the area.
On Sunday morning, the Russian Air Force emerged in Deir Ezzor to help drive back the Islamic State terrorists by pounding their positions near the 137th Brigade base and Tal Kroum.
According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Airport, the Russian Air Force conducted over 30 airstrikes above Deir Ezzor’s southwestern countryside, destroying several Islamic State mechanisms being used against the Syrian Arab Army.
The Russian Air Force is still conducting sorties over the Deir Ezzor Governorate; furthermore, they have expanded their aerial operations to the eastern Homs countryside in order to help protect Palmyra city.

Llega a Qamishli un avión de ayudas humanitarias fletado por Rusia

Hassakeh, SANA– Ha llegado al aeropuerto de Qamishli en la provincia nororiental de Hassakeh, un avión cargado de ayudas alimentarias ofrecidas por el pueblo ruso.
Por su parte el gobernador de Hassakeh, Mohammad Zaal Al Aly, dijo que la población de Hasakah agradecen l liderazgo y el pueblo de Rusia por su ayuda que refleja la profundidad de la relación entre ambos pueblos, explicando el papel de esta ayuda para aliviar el sufrimiento de la gente de la provincia por el asedio impuesto por los grupos terroristas.
En el mismo contexto, Al Aly agregó que se espera otros cargamentos de ayudas alimentarias al aeropuerto de Qamashili, los cuales serán distribuidos a las familias afectadas en la provincia.
Cabe destacar que la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Agricultura y la Alimentación ha puesto en práctica un puente aéreo el día 9 del pasado julio para entregar la ayuda alimentaria a la provincia y que dicho puente continuará su su funcionamiento hasta el quince de este mes en curso.

Russian Marines replace Syrian Army on Aleppo’s Castillo Highway

Aleppo, Syria (12:10 P.M.) - The Russian Marines have replaced the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) along the Castillo Highway in northern Aleppo after the ceasefire agreement took effect last night.
Initially, a member of the Syrian Arab Army's "Tiger Forces" told Al-Masdar News that their units did not receive any instructions regarding their withdrawal from the Castillo Highway.
However, on Monday, the Syrian Arab Army's High Command instructed the Tiger Forces to withdraw 1km north of the Castillo Highway in order to allow the Russian Marines to facilitate a humanitarian corridor along this roadway.
According to an Al-Masdar correspondent that is embedded with the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army is planning an offensive in northern Aleppo in the coming weeks, so they will keep a presence inside Al-Malaah Farms.

Russia kills 250 ISIS terrorists near Palmyra

PALMYRA, SYRIA (5:40 P.M.) - Minutes ago, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that on Tuesday, their Air Force killed 250 Islamic State terrorists and destroyed 15 of their vehicles near the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in the Homs Governorate.
"Anti-Daesh fight is going on. Yesterday, the Russian Aerospace Forces conducted airstrikes to the north of Palmyra where a group of Daesh terrorists was preparing offensive on the city," Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir, first deputy chief of the General Staff's Main Operational Department, said at a news briefing in the Defense Ministry.
The Islamic State was expected to launch a large-scale offensive at Palmyra in the coming days after they conducted several small attacks near the International Highway over the last two weeks.
Lt. Gen.Poznikhir did not specify which airport the Russian Air Force used to launch this attack; however, several reports last week indicated that Moscow and Tehran are once again negotiating the use of the Hamedan Airbase in western Iran.

Russia wants Syrian ceasefire to be extended for 48 hours

Russian General Staff official Viktor Poznikhir said his country calls for extending the ceasefire in Syria for another 48 hours in spite of repealed violations by armed opposition.
"In accordance with the Russian-US agreements, the existing 48-hour ceasefire is expiring today at 7pm [local time]. We note that recently the cessation of hostilities was observed in full. As of this morning the overall number of violations by the militants has reached 60,”  Poznikhir commented.
The top Russian official also underlined the necessity of fully implementing the agreement, making clear that the Russian government "is in favor of extending the ceasefire across Syria for another 48 hours".
A nationwide ceasefire was implemented in Syria on Monday at 7 pm, with the exception of Jabhet al-Nusra and ISIS.

‘Rebeldes moderados’ abren fuego sobre convoy de ayuda en Alepo

Grupos armados sirios, calificados como rebeldes moderados por algunos países, abrieron fuego el miércoles sobre un convoy de ayuda humanitaria en Alepo (noroeste).

Según informó la página Web Almasdar News, integrantes del llamado Ejército Libre de Siria atacaron un convoy de ayuda humanitaria que se dirigía a la ciudad de Alepo desde la autopista Castello, en el sur de Alepo.

Este ataque obligó a las fuerzas sirias y rusas responsables de la protección del convoy a impedir su avance y lanzar una ofensiva con el fin de echar a los terroristas de la zona y abrir el camino para la entrega de las ayudas.

    Algunas partes del conflicto sirio están tratando de usar este asunto [la entrega de la ayuda humanitaria] para conseguir fines políticos”, dijo David Swanson, uno de los portavoces de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU).

Por su parte, un reportero ruso que acompaña a las fuerzas sirias en la mencionada autopista grabó el momento en que los terroristas realizaron un ataque cuando el Ejército sirio inspeccionaba la zona para ver si era segura y si podría ser usada por los convoyes humanitarios.

Las fuerzas sirias advirtieron el miércoles que varios francotiradores y contingentes de grupos terroristas habían sido desplegados a lo largo de la autopista Castello.

Hasta el momento no se ha resuelto el asunto y las fuerzas sirias aún no han autorizado a ningún convoy ni vehículo utilizar el Castello dado los peligros debido a la alta presencia de elementos armados y extremistas.

Algunos medios contradicen la versión de los hechos del Gobierno sirio e insisten en que éste mismo estaría bloqueando la llegada de ayudas humanitarias a Alepo, no obstante, hasta la propia Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) ha confirmado que varios grupos armados sirios bloquean la llegada de ayudas humanitarias para asegurarse una especie de victoria política.

“Algunas partes del conflicto sirio están tratando de usar este asunto (la entrega de la ayuda humanitaria) para conseguir fines políticos”, dijo David Swanson, uno de los portavoces de la ONU.

Además, varios de los medios difundieron videos que muestran una manifestación realizada supuestamente por los ciudadanos de Alepo en la que rechazan las ayudas humanitarias. Varios de los participantes en dicha marcha llevan la bandera del grupo terrorista Fath al-Sham (antiguamente conocido como el Frente Al-Nusra), vinculado a Al-Qaeda.
